There was a time in the not so distant past when the railroad was man's connection to the rest of the world and all of its treasures - the things that could enrich and enhance his life. It is fitting therefore as we plan for a library, that it's design reflect that connection, for though the railroad depot design of the planned library may be symbolic, the effect of the library on the quality of our lives will be much the same as that of the railroad in the past
The treasures of a
library are many. Imagine: a first grader discovers the joys of reading with
Dr. Seuss; a teenage experiences an extraordinary adventure with Tolkein's
Lord of the Rings; a senior citizen finds wanted companionship in the
pages of the classics; an industrialist decides he wants to locate his
business in a town that has a library, because he knows he will have a work
force that is above average and a community with high values in which his
children and grandchildren can flourish.
As much as 50% of
the space in the library building is planned to be used for community
activities such as receptions, club meetings, reunions, book signings,
seminars, classes of all sorts including programs to combat adult
illiteracy. The possibilities are unlimited.
The advantages to our community represented by a library and the space for community enhancement programs are too numerous to list here. If you are interested in learning more about the planning, please contact a member of Friends of the Library. We have all the information you need. What we are lacking is your help.
Your donation will change a dream to reality for Milner, not only the Milner of today, but even more so, the Milner of tomorrow. Please help the Friends bring something truly valuable to Milner - our very own connection to the treasures of the world - a library.
